So I just spent the last hour trying to program the home link on my E Tron. I have a genie garage door opener, which is a pretty popular brand, but no matter where I tried to sync my garage opener to the car I couldn't get it to work. Does anybody know where the home link receiver is placed in the E Tron front bumper area. Anybody else had issues setting up their Homelink?

I just did mine over the weekend. Not a genie, but I got it to work. There was an addendum extra page in my manual and I followed the directions. The receiver is not in the bumper but in the rear view mirror. Also I needed to use the learn button on the door open because I have a roaming code... hope this helps

I have Overhead, I had trouble until I followed the supplemental instructions exactly. Once set up it has worked fine.

Hello! Just got a 2016 A3 etron and found this post because I was also having trouble programming the Homelink. I found three different sets of instructions online or in my owner's manual supplement and none of them worked. I finally called Homelink for help and this is what they had me do:

1) Start with garage door closed, car outside the garage facing the door, and ignition on.
2) Press and hold the two outside (I and III) Homelink buttons until it flashes rapidly to reset or for first time programming.
3) Simultaneously press and hold the garage opener button near the homelink button you wish to program and that homelink button until the LED indicator flashes rapidly.
4) Get out of the car and go press the "learn" button on the garage door opener itself.
5) Get back in the car and press and hold the homelink button you are programming for 3 seconds a total of 3 times.

Worked for me! Our opener is a Chamberlain Liftmaster. Hope this helps anyone else having trouble with it!

There was no supplement or addendum
in the owners manual. Googled instructions didn’t
work (they had me at the front bumper watching
for flashing hazard lights). Fortunately, this
Forum has the answers. Thank you.
These instructions worked perfectly.

The 2018's should all have this but I've been surprised by the subtle differences between models and years. My 2018 has the homelink buttons but do not light up when I press them.

Does anyone know how to check the wiring in the homelink system? I stopped looking for the problem after a couple of hours and just used the remote.

i noticed on the USA order guide it was a port installed option on lower models....included in highest trim. I don't believe the highest trim Canadian model has it; nor was it a port program. so.....does anyone know if you can added it as they would have done as a port program after production??

You could try a retrofit - https://www.partsbytopher.com/products/genuine-homelink-retrofit-kit-8v-a3-s3-rs3, or https://www.audizine.com/forum/show...es-for-Homelink-retrofit-other-than-Europrice

The latter link talks about not being able to have rain sensor and homelink but I have both on my 2018.

great stuff; thanks for the information!
I guess this is how the port program would have looked like? (order guide HLB on prem and prem plus). Is this your actual picture and did you install it?
Was yours part of the HLB (port program) or came with the Prestige trim (WPT.). The order guide shows homelink as a standard option with WPT ..guess i am trying to see if the HLB install and the WPT order were both done at the port or, if not, looked identical.
What are the placement options if im doing a retrofit? Side placement (as per pic) or elsewhere? My S5 and S7 have homelink buttons closer to the red LEDs.

I'm at the end of my knowledge here. Mine was already installed when I bought the car but I don't know if it was a port option or factory installed. Photo is from the Internet but is identical to how mine is installed. It was part of my build sheet.

does anyone know if the 2018 Canadian built A3 e-trons would have the necessary wiring set up to add HLB part as shown in the picture? looks to be plug and play for USA cars
