Hello fellow A3 E-tron owners,

My 2017 with 63000 km recently had a check engine light come on. Interestingly, no additional messages or warnings saying what it's about. The car drove just fine and I did not notice anything different.

I used an OBD2 scanner and found the P0A80 code, suggesting the battery pack requires replacement. However, 2 days later the check engine light went away on its own. The code is still stored in the car when scanned but no longer shows the "Permanent, Confirmed" tag, just "Confirmed".

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? I would appreciate any advice on what caused this, and how I should be proceeding with the car. I'm considering going in for a diagnostic at my local Audi dealership but without an active CEL, I'm not sure if they would do anything.

Other relevant information: The battery charges 6/8 bars, most drives I'm getting 3 kWh or less out of the battery, calculated using distance x efficiency data from the trip computer. The estimated range on a full charge without HVAC is about 27km, real range is around 15-18km. With HVAC on estimated range hovers around 21-23, real range achieved is around 11-14km.

If you have OBD Eleven Scanner - (or similar?) - it will show the actual EV battery Voltage at full charge - About 360 - 380 volts - and you can see each of the 96 cells and their voltage - about 3.8 volts. If one or more of the individual Cells is significantly below the average that may be what is being reported.

In case anyone is following this thread - Audi approved the warranty claim last week. I'm waiting for a new battery pack to arrive which will be installed free of charge.

This is great news. I hope that we have as good luck soon, though Audi USA is not very supportive. We are at slightly better all-electric range but only by 1 or 2 miles (~3km). We are only at 25K miles on our 2917 A3 Sportback e-tron Premium Plus, which we purchased new in February 2017. No CEL notices, though we have rarely used the engine for more than 2-3 days per year over the past 4-5 years.

Hey dlink, sorry to hear about that. I think the lower mileage is working against you here, as the battery is degrading due to old age but haven't had many charging cycles. FYI, the CEL came on when the car was in EV mode, and the fault was not ICE related.

I wouldn't give up hope. In my opinion, going around different dealerships definitely helps. Perhaps look for a dealership closest to you where members have gotten a battery replacement.

I wish you the best of luck on your quest!

bbwagon, where are you located in Canada? I'd be curious. I'm in YVR.
Same :)

I actually see quite a few A3 e-trons driving around town. We own two of these ourselves - one white, one grey.

It would be neat to organize a meet-up and chat with everyone about their ownership experience. I'd love to see if there are any cool modifications done to these cars.
