So I've been running into some funky issues with the regen braking on my old A3 e-tron. The power meter isn't budging at all when I hit the brakes, even though I'm slamming them pretty hard! I've seen this happen a few times lately, and it’s starting to freak me out a bit.

Anyone else dealt with this, or have any idea what’s up?

You know, when your battery’s full or almost full, regen braking slows down or stops coz it can’t go past 100%. So, your car uses regular brakes more. As the battery drains, you’ll get more regen braking. And in warmer weather, you might see a little extra charge before the regen kicks in.
 
I’ve had a somewhat similar experiencse when my battery was full or close to it. The regen braking just stops working because the battery can’t take in any more charge. It’s likely that as the charge drops, you’ll see the regen kick in again.

This is totally normal in order to avoid battery damage.
It is also configured to activate the ICE and use it as engine brake if, for example, your battery is full and you have multiple KMs of downhill.
You can have around 60 to 65 KM of displayed range before it activates.
 
You may already know this, but pressing the brake pedal hard engages the brake pads, No regen. When your battery is not full press the brake pedal lightly (in advance of your stop) and then gradually add pressure. This will give the most regen.
